After you are sure that the gang has left, you clamber out from under the boardwalk. You become aware of an intense pain and pressure in your chest. Realizing that you were holding your breath for that entire encounter, you slowly let it out trying to elevate some of the pain. It doesn't help. The pain radiates outs of your shoulder and arm. You reach into your pack for your pills. The pain is intense now. Very intense. Overwhelming. You hand the pills to your grandson who shakes out a single pill. You notice that you have been sweating, although not abnormal for the intense heat of the Outer Banks. You reach for the pill with your right arm, as the pain in your left arm is quickly heightening. You let the pill dissolve beneath your tongue. You wait for the pain to lessen, for your breathing to return to normal, but it doesn't. Black spots appear in your vision. They blend together and mix with the pain. The world fades from your vision, then there is nothing.
