Final Brainstorm Session
Final Brainstorm Session

Engage in one final discussion with your teaching friends:

1. Once in the classroom, how do you plan to to keep up with whats going on in teaching English by staying connected to other English teachers, professional organizations, and the latest in English Education scholarship? What digital tools and sites will you use to stay connected?

2. Of what informal organizations, such as personal learning networks (PLNs), are you already a member, including members of your class or cohort group? How might you create a PLN using digital tools to keep in touch with your peers, for example, during student teaching? What, if any, is the value of maintaining a PLN?

3. In creating your own PLN, what other online sites, resources, and/or individual experts in the field could you include to acquire information to support your teaching?

4. Are you already involved in any particular professional organizations, such as the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), International Reading Association (IRA), or Modern Language Association (MLA)? What have you learned from mentor teachers, your own teachers, and your own experiences as teacher and student about these professional organizations and their impact on teaching and student learning? How do you see active participation in this organization as critical to your future teaching successes?

5. If you are creating an e-portfolio, how to you plan to create your e-portfolio (using a website, blog, or wiki, or a university/commercial platform), organize that e-portfolio in terms of categories, and determine what things will you include in your e-portfolio? How will this organization and inclusion vary according to different audiencesyour instructors, university, and/or future employers? How will you use your e-portfolio to reflect on your growth as a teacher?
