The Major Task:
Design a grammar unit that will teach these EEL and AAVE students in in an interactive and effective manner. Use Ms. Variation's students as your target student group.
Be sure to discuss the following as you make your plans:
1. Consider the students. Some are English Language Learners and others speak African American Vernacular English language. All are in a basic writing course. All reside in this urban setting.
2. Consider the literacy frameworks that might guide inclusive grammar instruction. Discuss which you might employ.
3. What types of activities will likely engage and teach these students English grammar, while simultaneously honoring and incorporating their home languages and diverse backgrounds.
Ultimately, you will need to share your grammar plan and provide a rationale for it. Good luck! When you finish, know that this plan will not only be turned over to your methods teacher for review, but also Ms. Variation, as she's always seeking collegial input.
