Welcome to your first School Board Meeting in this district!
After presenting an overview of your plans, you are faced with an open Question and Answer Session. You are asked the following questions. Discuss these with your teaching peers.
1. From a retired teacher: How is this curriculum culturally relevant to the students at this school? And how does it prepare them for the ACT and state-mandated testing?
2. From a parent: Why should my kid have to read books about different cultures?
3. From a board member: These titles you propose working with sound like they will be new to many of our students. How do you plan on engaging them in texts that are new and different?
4. From an elementary teacher: You plan on teaching students through critical inquiry. How, exactly, do you teach a thing like this? Can you give me an example of activities that you'd use to do so?
5. From a board member: How will you know if what you're planning to teach is going to make any difference in students learning?
