Welcome to Mr. Plot-a-long's Classroom. Below is a transcript of the beginning of this class period.
Mr. Plot-a-long: Welcome, all! Today should be really cool. We'll start by taking a quick reading check on the climate change website you read for homework last night.
(The majority of students simultaneously groan and sigh, some throwing their heads back, some laying their heads on desk, and some dropping pencils helplessly on their desks. A few who understood the site perk up, ready to earn points on a quiz).
Mr. Plot-a-long: Oh, come on now. We all read, right? Then it should be no big deal to take a simple five-question reading check quiz. In fact, it should be easy points if you took the time to read.
Student A: (mumbles to his friend beside him): Yeah, for the smart kids.
Mr. Plot-a-long: What's that I hear? You're all smart kids. Come on now, clear the desks. Name in the top right corner and flip the quiz over when you are done. You'll have just a few minutes.
(Student A, chin rested in his hand can only imagine he'll fail this quiz. Having read the text, he just didn't understand what happened in the story, let alone the major themes and ideas. He grabs the quiz, passes the rest to the student behind him, sighs, and tries to sit up straight with pencil in hand to take some wild guesses).
