Cynthia_Haynes says, "hello"
Cynthia_Haynes picks up The Lace.
Cynthia_Haynes starts reading from The Lace.
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: Being human: term for a flickering possession,
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: existence of a happiness still undemonstrated:
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: is it inhuman, that a pair of eyes
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: turned into this small densely woven piece of lace?
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: Do you want them back?
[Cynthia_Haynes pauses.]
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: You, long since vanished, and finally blind
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: is all your human joy here inside this thing
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: where your huge feelings went, as between
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: stem and bark, miniaturized?
[Cynthia_Haynes pauses.]
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: Through a tear in fate, a tiny interstice,
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: you absented your soul from its own time;
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: and it is so present here in this light
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: section of lace, it makes me smile at "usefulness."
[Cynthia_Haynes pauses.]
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: And if someday all we have done
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: and all that has happened to us
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: seems so inferior and strange,
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: as though there'd been no point
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: in taking the trouble to outgrow our first pair of shoes
[Cynthia_Haynes pauses.]
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: just to come to this . . . Shouldn't this
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: strip of yellowed lace, this tightly meshed
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: flowery border of lace suffice
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: to keep us here? Look: this at least got done.
[Cynthia_Haynes pauses.]
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: A life was ignored in the process, who knows.
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: A delight was there, was going to be sacrificed,
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: and finally at any cost
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: there would exist this thing, not easier than life
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: yet finished and so lovely, as though it weren't too soon
[Cynthia_Haynes reads]: to smile and soar.
[Cynthia_Haynes finishes reading.]
