Matthew Baker inherited the bakery from his father, who got it from his father, and back four generations. The Baker family has been responsible for baking the town's supply of bread over 120 years.

Matthew believes in strong work and strong morals. He keeps a tight reign on his children, especially his oldest son, Garthe. He depends on Garthe to help him in the bakery.
