Demographics
Puerto Rico is a very diverse island with its population descendents from many different cultures. It is composed largely of people of European and Spanish descent, along with descendents of the extinct Amerindian population, Africans and to some extent Asians. Emigration to the United States began largely after the WW II due to economic conditions and the high population density on the island. The population of Puerto Rico is just under 4 million and the population density could be compared to having the entire population of the world living on a landmass the size of the United States.
