Setting and Images

Setting:
Puerto Rico and Patterson New Jersey.

Imagery:
There were some specific images that stuck out in the chapter:
"She smelled like coffee with boiled milk and sugar", (In reference to Mama Ana). Here you have specific details on what she smelled like. We can use out senses to create an image.

"It was like I had opened an oven door. I was immediately drenched in sweat and felt like I was breathing water." (In reference to Puerto Rico). In this specific description it gives us an idea of how hot is was. An oven is usually set at 325 degrees if not higher so we can only imagine how hot it was.

T"he window was thrown wide open and right outside, perched on a fence separating our house from the neighbors by about 6 inches, there was a red rooster." It would be easy to say there was a rooster outside. But that wouldn't have don't us any good because we wouldn't know that the rooster was red and it was not only sitting but perched on a fence. It gets into great detail.

"She will prepare you a tea that will clear your system like a clogged sewer pipe." This simile gives us an image of how strong and effective this tea is. Not to mention something strong enough to clear a clogged sewer pipe cant taste or smell good.

There is a part in the chapter where she describes Angela's house in great detail she said that it looked "like a huge pink and white birthday cake."
