Capital of the East Java province, Surabaya is Indonesia's second largest city. The city derives its name from the words for shark (sura) and crocodile (buaya), the two symbols adorning its logo. The animals are told in myth to have vied for the title of strongest animal in the area. The logo shows them circling an image of Surabaya's city monument.
