Understanding Objects

As you travel through a Literary World virtual world, you will encounter a variety of objects. Being able to interact with these objects will be critical for success in any particular world. You are able to take some objects that you find with you, but others cannot be moved. The "get" and "drop" commands are helpful for picking up objects and then putting them back. You'll learn more about those in a moment.

Some objects are actually containers that hold other objects. You will need the "open" and "close" commands to look inside of containers. You will need the get and put commands to remove objects from containers and take them with you. So if you would like a piece of candy from the candy dish on the front desk, you must first open the candy dish and then take the candy.

If you have an object you would like somebody else to have. Try the "give" command. Try giving a piece of candy to the librarian and see how she reacts. There are also other basic commands that help you interact with objects: drink, eat, sit, flush, wash hands may all prove useful throughout the library.

Useful commands to know:

1. Inventory
Type "inventory" or "inv" to list what objects you presently have in your possession.

2. Get / Drop
As you travel through a world, you will encounter various objects. You may wish to collect these objects as they may help you later in your adventure. To pick up an object in the room, simply use the get command; for example, to pick up a copy of Hamlet, type: "get Hamlet". If you check your inventory after this, you will see that you are now in possession of Hamlet. If you wish to take something from your inventory and place it in a room, use the "drop" command; simply type drop Hamlet and the object will be in your present room. Type "look" and you will then see it in the room. Remember to always put the books back where you got them from.

3. Give
At some point, you may desire to give an object in your inventory to another character in the same room as you; to do so, you will need to use the "give" command. For example, if you want to give Hamlet to Joe, simply type "give Hamlet to Joe".

4. Open / Close
Some objects are also containers. They themselves are objects, but they may also contain other objects, and sometimes containers are empty. In order to discover what is contained, you must "open" the container. For example, if you want to see what is contained inside of the candy dish simply type: "open candy dish". To close a container, use the "close" command. So, if you want to close the candy dish, type "close candy dish".

5. Take / Put
Once a container is opened, it is possible to remove its contents or to place other objects in the container using the "take" and "put" commands. For example, if you open the candy dish and discover a caramel inside, you can remove it and place it in your inventory by typing "take caramel from candy dish". If you type "inventory" you will now see that you have the caramel in your possession. To put the caramel back into the candy dish, type "put caramel in candy dish".
